Character: The Solar Kitchen is a community kitchen, principally for those who live
and work in Auroville. As well as serving lunches in our dining hall
we prepare food that is sent out to schools and individuals.
Over a year around 1100 lunches are prepared daily, except Sundays.
We offer a vegetarian, cosmopolitan menu, largely made from vegetables
and grains grown organically in and around Auroville. Our name comes
from the large Solar Bowl situated on our roof, that, on sunny days,
provides steam for cooking. The active participants have to undergo
a health-checkup cum typhoid vaccination (legal requirement
to be allowed to participate in the kitchen or at the counter serving food).
